Upon graduating from The Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts, a
triple threat theatre school in April 2001, two friends Christel
Bartelse and Christina Sicoli formed The Burnt Marshmallows.
Ignited from a "Burnt Experience" blossomed a two woman physical
comedy duo from Toronto Ontario Canada. Both are graduates of The
Seconds City Conservatory Program and have trained in Pochinko clown
and Bouffon with Michael Kennard and John Turner (acclaimed Canadian
clown duo Mump and Smoot) as well as Sue Morrison, Adam Lazaraus and
Sara Stafford. They strive on creating original theatrical
productions through improvisation, utilizing their background in
theatre, sketch, dance, song, clown and bouffon to create character
and physical based performances.
In the past four years, they have successfully created, produced, and
performed in four full mounted shows, "BURNT ON A STICK", "U-HAULYWOOD",
(nominated for a CANADIAN COMEDY AWARD 2003-Best Comedic Play),"THE
BURNTMARSHMALLOW HOLIDAY SPECIAL", and "STUCK" directed by
Michael Kennard. They successfully sold out at the Toronto Fringe
Festival earning the "Bst Ensemble", voted on of the "Top 10
comedy shows of 2003" (NOW MAGAZINE) and rave reviews at both
venues.
They continue to perform at numerous theatres (The Second City
Toronto, Betty Oliphant), festivals (Fringe, Chicago
Improv festival) and corporate events such as the
TOTAL WOMAN SHOW (Kitchener, London) and this July 2005
TORONTO STREET FESTIVAL. They collaborate with other
troupes and actors and have produced and created such shows as "LES
FEMMES FATALES" (5 Fabulous Female Comedians) as well as
gathered some of Toronto's best comedic talent for "THE COMEDY
MARCH: A PARADE OF COMEDY". Most recently, "THE
CLODHOPPER CHRISTMAS COMEDY HOUR" with the dynamic duo, The
Rumoli Brothers and opened for "THE PAJAMA MEN" (Shenoah
Allen and Mark Chavez) in "STOP:NOT GOING". They
have been seen at many comedy venues such as The
RIVOLI (Sketch Comedy Lounge) and numerous Ch! aracter Nights
at the Tim Sim's Playhouse (Second City Toronto).
As well as theatre they have created a variety of short character
films such as "SLEEPING WITH MIC JAGGER", "TEDOR AND JEANNIE
DAY", and "HEATHER &VAL: WNBA".
Stay tuned for upcoming BURNT MARSHMALLOW PROJECTS.
