Christel began performing
at the ago of three after her parents put her in a recreational ballet
class. Fifteen years later she was dancing full time and competing across
Canada and the U.S. as well as acting in her home town of Kitchener, ON.
She loved to dance but decided to move to Toronto, ON to pursue her true
passion, acting.
She is a graduate of The
Second City Conservatory Program as well as the Randolph Academy for the
Performing Arts where she first met her comedy partner Christina in an
improv class.
She has studied clown
intensively with John Turner and Michael Kennard (Mump and Smoot) as well
as Sue Morrison. Christel has performed at the Chicago Improv Festival,
the Toronto Improv Jamboree and at the March of Dames.
Although Christel
performs a lot of comedy & loves it, she also loves Shakespeare. She had
the opportunity to go and study with Shakespeare & Company in
Massachusetts under the direction of Tina Packer.
As co-creator of The
Burnt Marshmallows, Christel has created, produced and performed in four
full mounted shows, Burnt on a Stick, U-Haulywood (Canadian
Comedy Award Nominee) The Holiday Special and most recently STUCK,
directed by Michael Kennard which was performed at the Toronto and
Vancouver Fringe 2003.
Other recent Burnt
Marshmallow shows include Les Femmes Fatales: An Evening of 5
Fabulous Female Comediennes at the Tim Sim’s Playhouse(Dec. 2003) and
Comedy March: A Parade of Comedy (March 2004).
Christel was recently
seen in a workshop production of The Hollow as Tifulbeau, written and
directed by Michael Kennard at the Annex Theatre and has many clown and
comedy shows coming up.

Hailing from the
small town of Port Colborne Ontario, Christina began performing at the
age of 4. She trained in dance with the Port Colborne Dance Academy as
well as piano with The Royal Conservatory of Music. Here she competed
in a variety of competitions and festivals as well as acted in a
variety of theatrical productions. She holds a degree in Sociology at
the University of Toronto and is a graduate of The Randolph Academy
for the Performing Arts as well as The Second City Conservatory
Program where she trained in improvisation.
TWO TIME DORA MAVOR MOORE AWARD WINNER in the categories of
"BEST ENSEMBLE" and "BEST PRODUCTION" for "AND BY THE
WAY MISS"....
She has trained intensively with acclaimed Canadian Clown duo, “Mump
and Smoot” and Bouffon with Sarah Stafford and Adam Lazaras.
Christina performed in the live improvised soap opera, “Sin
City”
as well as in the “Toronto
Improv Jamboree”,
“March of Dames”, “Chicago Improv Festival” and “Hysteria”.
She continues to study in a variety of disciplines as well as focus on
creating and performing physical and character based material.
As one half of the
physical comedy duo, “The Burnt Marshmallows” (2003 Canadian Comedy
Award Nominees), she successfully co-created, produced, and
performed in 3 full mounted shows, “Burnt On A Stick”, “The
Burnt Marshmallows Holiday Special” and “U-Haulywood”.
Last year marked their fourth production “Stuck” directed by
Michael Kennard and successfully sold out at The Toronto Fringe
Festival 2003 earning them “Best Ensemble” and voted one of
“Top 10 Comedy Shows of 2003 (NOW MAGAINE) and rave reviews at
both the Toronto and Vancouver Fringe Festival 2003. They continue to
perform at numerous comedy venues and festivals in and out of town.
Recent Burnt Marshmallow shows include, “Celebrate
Toronto Street Festival”, “The Clodhopper Christmas Comedy Hour,
"Les Femmes Fatales: A Night of 5 Fabulous Female Comedians"
and "Comedy March: A Parade of Comedy" featuring some of
Toronto’s hottest talent. They were also seen at the “Lunacy
Cabaret”, “Intensified: The Honey Katz Gala” (Betty
Oliphant Theatre)"Celebrate Toronto Street Festival" and the
"Fringe Talk show with The Rumoli Brothers." and numerous venues, festivals, and corporate
events in and out of town.
Recently she has performed in Vancouver
at the Vancouver Theatre Sports improvised show, "IMPROV AHOY" the
comedy show "It's Good To Know People", The Vancouver Fringe
Fundraiser, and at the Vancouver Improv festival with the show 8FU.
Stay tuned this July as a special guest at the "Waterfront Theatre" on
Grandville Island and for a return for only one night to Toronto for
the Harbourfront Festival for the "Hot & Spicy" show.
